Pregnancy
is supposed to be about life not death therefore giving birth is a
cause for celebrations. Raising a child is also supposed to be a
pleasant experience. In as much as the country is registering a decrease
in child mortality at a quicker rate, the health care delivery system
is still not favourable for the survival of children under the age of 5
thereby putting questions as to whether Malawi will achieve the
Millennium Development Goal number 4 by 2015 which calls for the
reduction of under-five mortality rate by two thirds.
This
picture here was taken in Ndirande, Safarao (with consent from the
parents and the care givers) where under five care services are being
offered under a tree. You wouldn’t expect to see this in Blantyre, being
a city, but this is really happening.
